Balmoral Orchard
In 2016 we were contacted by energy consultant, Solar Choice, to work on a solar energy solution for Toowoomba-based business, Balmoral Avocados, due to their high energy bills. A large amount of the energy costs for the orchard was due to the high amounts of power required to operate the bores which provide irrigation for the avocado trees. It was determined that a 100kW system would be appropriately sized for the needs of the main bore, however due to the required location at the bottom of a hill over a kilometer from the main office, the only option was to install a ground-mounted system.
Since completion of the initial system, Hembrows has returned to complete a second system to service the packing shed and office building, providing a total of 128kW of solar power, which is estimated to achieve a payback period of less than 4 years.
